At Stearns Design Build, we pride ourselves on creating spaces that foster a deep connection to nature, enhancing the health and well-being of our clients.
This remodeling project, located in Gibb Estates in College Station, embodies this philosophy, focusing on the primary bathroom of a cherished client’s home. By leveraging our Transcendence approach to design, we crafted a space that feels naturally serene and functional.
Understanding the Project
The primary goal was to make the bathroom remodel more aging-in-place friendly, ensuring safety and ease of use. Key objectives included:
- Rebuilding the shower for accessibility
- Replacing the slippery tile floor
- Repainting the space
- Upgrading the jetted tub to support health needs
Addressing Challenges
The bathroom had not been updated since the 1990s, and several issues needed addressing:
- The old shower had outdated fixtures and was leaking, causing rot.
- The jetted tub was malfunctioning and too small.
- The slippery floor posed a safety hazard.
- The paint was peeling due to moisture.
Shower Transformation
We created a curbless shower, enhancing accessibility. The new design features:
- Forest green large-format subway tiles on the walls
- Black pebble tiles on the floor evoking a rainforest ambiance
- A rainfall showerhead, massaging jets, and a hand shower
- A tiled bench for safety and convenience
- Corner shelves for storage
- Two grab bars for additional support
Tub Upgrade
The new tub, essential for our client’s health, includes:
- Massaging jets and a heater
- A spacious design for comfort
- Coordinating green wall tiles for a cohesive look
- A traditional and hand faucet for versatility

Flooring and Painting
Safety and aesthetics were paramount:
- Green, matte-finish floor tiles for grip
- Additional grout lines for enhanced traction
- New exhaust fans to control moisture
- Fresh paint on all surfaces for a clean, new feel

A Harmonious Color Scheme
Inspired by nature, we used warm, organic colors to create a relaxing environment:
- Green tiles in the shower and on the floor
- Black pebble shower floor tiles
- Satin nickel plumbing fixtures for warmth and modernity
- Light beige walls reminiscent of sand
- Crisp white cabinets and ceilings
A Successful Transformation
The results speak for themselves. Our clients are thrilled with their beautiful, functional bathroom and the refreshed exterior of their home. The new features not only improve the look of the space but also enhance safety and usability, ensuring it meets their needs now and in the future. It was a pleasure to bring this natural, harmonious vision to life, helping our clients live their best lives.
